Position:              Director of Curriculum and Educator Development

Reports to:          Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness

Job Summary:

The Director of Curriculum and Educator Development is responsible for the development of curriculum and resources needed to support and guide educators in grades K4-8, supports the development of educators around implementation of the instructional pieces that are essential to each day in conjunction with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness, and works to develop Assistant Principals, Academic Deans and Master Teachers in their leadership. 

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness
  • Visits each school every other week to observe in classrooms and capture trends that drive next steps in action planning with Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness around educator development, including one day per week where observations are normed 
  • Meets weekly with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness to debrief on observations and plan professional developments around eductor development and instructional implementation based on trends in observation
  • Meets biweekly with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness and the Chief Schools Officer to report on trends, make suggestions, review progress towards goals and action plan next steps designed to ensure progress towards network priorities
  • Plans Seton Educator Academy (SEA) and monthly teacher collaboratives
  • Coaches principals on coaching teachers

 

  • Develops and identifies curriculum that guides core classrooms and aligns with grade level standards which support student learning and outcomes 
  • Leads Seton curriculum planners to ensure that curriculum is meeting the needs of Seton students, is engaging, diverse and standards driven
  • Plans professional developments which enhance teacher knowledge of curricular components and allow practice and alignment across the network 
  • Ensures, through classroom observations, that curriculum is being followed, is on pace and is meeting the needs of individual students 
  • Reviews potential new curriculums which would promote student learning and outcome and would meet the diverse needs of Seton Catholic School students 
  • Meets with the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness to give insight to curriculum shortcomings, problem solve around them as well as lift up curriculum strengths and observed successes
  • Manages the Seton Mega Document

 

  • Develops Seton Educators 
  • Visits classrooms across the network daily, real time coaches and documents observations in Whetstone allowing principals access to feedback, opportunities and successes for teachers in their buildings
  • Ensures equity in instructional delivery 
  • Works with first year to Seton teachers on instructional strategies unique to Seton Catholic Schools, provides them real time coaching when doing observations, communicates celebrations and concerns to site principals and uses first year Seton teacher trends to inform Seton Educator Academy professional development as well as opportunities for growth as a network as it pertains to onboarding new teachers
  • Onboards new teachers to Seton 

 

  • Develops and Coaches Master Teachers
  • Meets with Master Teachers when in schools to norm walkthroughs, provide leadership guidance and, when available, observe coaching sessions 
  • Leads Master Teacher meetings with the support of the Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness
  • Acts as a mentor to Master Teachers 
  • Ensures that Master Teachers are being given release time to develop leadership skills, communicates concerns to the Chief Schools Officer and Senior Director of Curriculum and Instructional Effectiveness when Master Teacher duties are not being met or schools aren’t supporting, helps action plan to ensure the development of future Seton leadership is progressing through a Master Teacher program

Other Duties:

  • Meet with Schools’ Team weekly 
  • Plan Summer PDs and cadres for curriculum development and instructional implementation
  • Manages and oversees all tutor programs for Seton Catholic Schools 

Qualifications:

  • Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in education required, Master’s degree preferred, ongoing professional development helpful

 

  • Experience
  • Prior teaching experience; administrative and/or supervisory experience required

 

  • Licensing
  • Valid State Teaching Certification.  Any mandatory reporting requirements.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

The majority of this job involves walking, sitting or standing necessary to observe classroom instruction and school activities, mostly indoors.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
