Job Summary

The Controller will have primary oversight of all financial transactions for our growing school network. He or she will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records of all accounting, payroll and banking transactions. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring that financial obligations are met in a timely manner and maintain a system of internal accounting controls, ensuring that all transactions are executed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, policies, procedures and forms. The Controller reports to the Financial Services Manager and is responsible for accomplishing goals and objectives that are consistent with the mission and vision of Seton Catholic Schools.

The job will include the following duties and responsibilities:

Accounting and Financial Transactions

  • Manage and ensure the effective performance of all accounting functions, including payables, receivables, general ledger and financial reporting, ensuring that payables/receivables are paid in a timely manner.
  • Perform accounting functions and communicate regularly to the Financial Services Manager as to the status of financial operations.
  • Record and reconcile outsourced payroll on network financial system in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and review all cash, bank, accrual, and monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations to assure appropriate and accurate accounting records are maintained, promptly notifying the Financial Services Manager of variances and discrepancies noted.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure accurate account coding, performing reclassifications as needed.
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements.
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
  • Oversee the state aid payment process and collection.
  • Prepare and organize audit worksheets, required documents and reports for annual financial and fiscal practices audits.
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics to measure performance of operations.
  • Oversee maintenance of all information required for reporting, issuance and filing of 1099’s.
  • Oversee maintenance of all required data for W-2, 941, state and federal tax, FICA, and pension reporting.
  • Keep up-to-date on financial software changes and enhancements, GAAP and other financial reporting requirements and disseminate to others as appropriate.  



  • Supervise accounting clerks that support payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. 
  • Communicate to Seton leadership on financial matters; works collaboratively across management team and school finance staff.
  • Collaborate with Finance management team including CFO, Financial Services Manager, Operations Manager, HR Manager and Finance Analyst.
  • Understand, represent, commit to and implement the mission, vision and values of Seton Catholic Schools.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in promoting academic excellence in an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to serve all of Seton Catholic School’s customers and constituencies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and establish an efficient, flexible schedule to achieve operational goals.
  • Attention to detail, ability to establish priorities, and consistent in meeting deadlines.
  • Strong communication, organization, human relations and collaboration skills—and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Non-profit and multi-entity accounting experience, or equivalent experience, desired.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and extended workdays, as needed.
  • Considerable knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting requirements for schools and/or non-profit organizations, sound accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience providing financial information and analysis to leaders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, required. CPA certification, preferred.
